I’ve lived at The Summit since 2005, and I’m certain it was the best move I ever made; though, I’ll be the first to admit I wouldn’t have told you so before I moved here. I’ve lived in Lynchburg for 38 years, and I didn’t have any intentions to move to a retirement community. I was taking care of my wife and the house, not looking to move at the time. My oldest stepdaughter was the one who motivated me to consider The Summit, and it didn’t take long before I decided I was glad she did.

I chose to live at The Summit after looking at several places. The overall accommodations, amenities, and meals here impressed me. My cat, Sugar Ray, was another deciding factor. He’s family, so I wouldn’t consider a community that didn’t allow pets, and I have several canine and feline neighbors that prove many other residents here share the same priority.

While several things affected my decision, what’s proved to be the most important benefit of living here is the continuum of care available. When my wife and I needed professional health care assistance, it was already here. We didn’t have to manage searching for it in the midst of health problems. We moved into an Independent Living apartment, and we’ve always had the assistance we need. After my wife’s illness, that’s when I knew without a doubt this was the best move I ever made. She lived in The Summit Health and Rehabilitation center for two years, and I visited her three times a day. Over the time she was there, I made a lot of good friends, and I still go to visit them every afternoon. I feel at home there with the people I’ve gotten to know and the new ones I meet.

We’re all neighbors here, and we take care of each other.
